Final Project Finishes for 2021!

Here are a couple of final finished quilts for 2021.

First of all is the doll quilt I started over a year ago.  I finally finished it and gave it as a Christmas gift, along with a doll, to a granddaughter.

Project number two is a Christmas quilt made in the same string quilt pattern that I have made several quilts from this past year.  The only difference is the fabric placement and using the same fabrics in the same places in all the blocks.  It makes a completely different looking quilt.

Here is the back.  I used what I had!

Whew!  I set a goal for 2021 to make quilts without buying any fabric.  Mission accomplished.  I made 5 quilts during 2021 and only purchased quilt battings.

I want to make more Christmas quilts in 2022 using only what I have on hand.  I also think some Christmas pillow cases for the grandkids would be appreciated.  I could give them the pillow cases at Thanksgiving and they could enjoy them until after Christmas.

The Papa Jack Quilt Number Two

This post is linked to Finished or Not Friday at Alycia Quilts., Confessions of a Fabric Addict, and From Bolt To Beauty.

I made my hubby, AKA The Papa Jack, a new scrappy, masculine quilt!  The reason I am calling it the Papa Jack Quilt Number Two, is because it is the second one I've made him with that name.  You can see the first one made in 2014, HERE

This project was on my goals list for 2021.  Also sticking to my goals, I did not buy anything in the making of this quilt.  The fabrics were all in my stash.  I bought the batting with a Joann's gift card that I received for Christmas.

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you might notice a pattern here.  This is the third quilt in a row that I have made with this block.   I used a little more creativity with this one with the border.   I enjoy making them so much, I might just keep going!

Stats:

20 blocks

Each block is 13 inches finished.

The inner border is 1/1/2 inches wide finished.

The outer border is made of 5 1/2 inch (finished) by various lengths.

The finished size of the quilt is 66 inches wide and 79 inches long.

Saturday In The Sewing Room

Good Saturday morning to you! Today I am working in my sewing room and thought I'd share some pictures.

Over at So Scrappy, the color of scraps for the month is red. I have a lot of red scraps, but I am focusing on the smallest ones first and have put together my dark red and light red 2 1/2 inch squares which will be sewn together for the Rainbow Double Irish Chain Quilt I am working on.

Each fabric has a story and I even remember where most of them came from.  There's always a snippet of the NC State fabric in any scrap quilt that I make which has red in it.  Three of these scraps were given to me by my coworker, who makes some of her own blouses.  The mushroom one was in a fat quarter set I received for my birthday a few years ago.  Some of these reds were also in the Field and Furrows log cabin quilt I made for my grandson, Eli, about a year ago, you can see HERE

My step son-in-law made this quilt hanging shelf for me for Christmas.  I love it!  The items on the shelf are just there for this picture.  I have plans for what I want to put on there, but haven't gotten around to it yet.  I think a 5x7 canvas print in black and white of our six grandchildren would be pretty. The quilt is probably my favorite of the quilts I have made.  Its the cheddar bow ties quilt that was the leaders and enders project at Quiltville, with Bonnie Hunter, a few years ago.  It contains countless different scraps but the cheddar  color ties everything together.  I did some feather quilting in the border, which was my first attempt at doing that.  I hope to do more and am planning some in the Rainbow Irish Chain Quilt.

One has to keep up her strength when doing a marathon sewing session, so here's a strawberry, blueberry, cheese cake smoothie!  It was delicious and works for the Trim Healthy Mama plan.

Do you ever lay awake at night planning quilts?  I have been doing that lately.  The after 50 years old crowd will understand!   Last night I had table runners on my mind.  I want to make some with a watermelon theme.  I found watermelon scraps when I was digging through my scraps looking for reds!

Scrappy Saturday

I decided to do a 36 patch quilt using my two and one half inch scrap squares, as a leaders and enders project.  Each 12 inch square (finished) will be made from a different color and so I realized I could use this project toward the scrappy color of the month at the So Scrappy Blog.  This month was purple, so here's a purple block.  I'm a little late to the party, so one purple block is all I got done for March.

I'm not sure what color will be used in April, but I have made a pink block....

And started on a green block.

Here are my last four Splendid Sampler Blocks, which are being made mostly from scraps too.

Two of my grandsons and I decorated Easter eggs today and here is one of Eli's eggs.

Happy Easter everyone!

A Little Scrappy Diversion

I've worked on the red and white double nine patch Irish Chain quilt during every spare moment this whole weekend and needed a little diversion. You can see some of the red and white to the left of these blocks.

I used the tutorial for Crumb Quilts found HERE on Quiltville.com. I just pulled out a handful or two of all kinds and shapes of scraps and went to sewing. When each square was big enough, I laid a 6 1/2 inch see through plastic square on top and trimmed around it with my rotary cutter. Before I knew it I had 4 done. I'm not sure how I will use them yet, but they make a great leader/ender project.

My first love in quilting is scrap quilting, so I love these! Looks like another WIP for the list.

A Quilted Walker Caddy from Stash/Scraps

I made this for a friend's walker this week.

It has a front and back pocket and securely attaches with Velcro, sort of like a saddle bag. The pocket in the front has a small Velcro closure to protect its contents while out and about in stores, etc.

I would like to embellish it a little by adding a ribbon bow on the front. If I make more of these I would like to add other decorative touches like ribbon or rickrack trim.

I was determined to make it without buying any fabric and I had exactly enough fabric in this color from scraps left over from this quilt made years ago!

I am really doing well at using what I have on hand and reducing the contents of some of my plastic bins!
