Little Eli's Finishing Touches

God is working on the finishing touches of little Eli. His mom says he is a very active baby and is wondering if he will sleep much after he is born, if he moves around this much already!

Here is the finishing touch on his warm and fuzzy quilt.

I am in the process of gathering fabrics to make him a traditional quilt in colors of aqua blue and orange. I'm thinking swirls and maybe feathers in the quilting. Planning, planning, planning.

Swirls on the flip side..

I forgot to include the picture of the back of the doll quilt that I recently made. I love this fabric with the pink and blue flowers and owls. I think, but am not sure, that it is a piece of a vintage sheet.

This is a fake quilt sandwich that I used to practice quilting swirls on before attempting the real thing.

Quilting plans for this week include finishing the top of the Jewel Box/Buckeye Beauty quilt, work on the machine quilting of the D9P quilt and work on more miniature quilts.

That seems like a tall order, especially since I will be at work during the day all week!

But, the Jewel Box/ Buckeye Beauty top is almost finished.  I have all the blocks finished and sewn into rows.  I just have to sew the rows together.  Its not as large as some of the quilts I have made.  It will finish at 60 by 72.  I will use it for a throw, or folded on the back of a chair or at the foot of a bed.    I plan to quilt swirls on it and can't wait!

The D9P quilting has just been started, so that will take some time to finish since it is a large quilt.

The good thing about the miniature quilts is that they don't take a ton of time to finish.  Almost instant gratification.  I would love to make one to hang on the wall in a spot behind the pictures of our two daughters' wedding photos.

Here's one more picture of the front of the doll quilt.

Country Quilts

I spotted these quilts last weekend while out and about. Aren't they pretty? Just my style and I love the barn stars too.

More Quilting Dreams

I am planning a new quilt! This will be a wedding gift needed by January 16, 2010. As usual, it needs to be a quick quilt, but it needs to be "cute", too. This pattern is in the November, 2008 issue of McCall's Quick Quilts.

This simple pattern only requires 5 inch squares, but by carefully arranging the tan/beige/cream blocks, the quilt has depth. The darkest squares are used on the outside and slowly fade to the lightest squares in the center. The tan/beige/cream blocks are alternated with various colored squares.

I already have what I hope is enough of the colored 5 inch squares that were a gift to me from a friend. They are 5 inch charm packs!!! No cutting at all needed.

I will have to purchase some tan/beige/cream fabric to make the alternating squares, but that will be easy and I already have some in my stash to get me started.

What do you think?

What to do with Curious George?

I recently hit the end of a yard sale when the seller was ready to get rid of everything and picked up five yards of this Curious George fabric for $1.00. Yes, that's right, 20 cents a yard! At the time I envisioned it as a backing fabric for a baby quilt. I'm not sure what colors to make the quilt top from. Any ideas? It would definitely be a baby boy's quilt.
