Sewing, Cleaning and Rethinking

This post is linked to WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced!

Its so nice to have an unused bed available for spreading out quilt squares. It helps me to see my progress and how much progress is left to do!

I made a few more Disappearing Nine Patch blocks after this picture was taken so I think have 20 made.

The Cheddar Bow Ties have been adding up too, but apparently not nearly enough to be that exciting. I have them pinned together in stacks of 10. So far I have 220. That may sound good, but when you consider that a bed size quilt will require over 700... aargh!

I would have made more progress on the quilts during the 3 day weekend, but I got involved in this...

Cleaning out and organizing my sewing room. I spent the whole day yesterday working in there and am very happy with the way it looks now, even though I'm not really through with it. Today I will pick up a couple more plastic storage boxes. I will post some pictures of the sewing room organization later this week. Everything will be labeled with labels made using a label maker. At last I will know what every box contains!

When organizing the bins and boxes I have come to the realization that just saving and organizing all this stuff isn't any good if I don't actually use it. For instance, this box contains selvedges that I have been saving for a couple of years. I either need to use them, stop saving them, or just get rid of them. When I first started collecting them I was excited about all the things I could make with them and now the excitement has worn off and I'm just not into it.

I am rethinking what projects I want to make and what is worth my time and storage space. There are endless numbers of projects that I would love to make. January is a good time to pick, choose and plan what the "best" ones would be.

I agree, Debbie. I have so many projects that are saved for 'one day' that no longer excite me. Time is precious..we need to make what we enjoy!

Your D9P is looking better every time I see your progress... it's going to be a fascinating quilt and a treasure!

I agree about "saving" projects and stuff for "one day"... I need to stop doing that and do something (either throw out, pass on, or make/finish) with them... 2013 is the year of the stash! Get 'er done!

Beds do make a nice place to layout your quilts, undisturbed. Unless you have a little dachshund like mine who like to get right in the middle of them. Your D9P is coming together nicely, will be very cheerful. I find I am just getting rid of some of my "stuff" that I have been saving, just time to pass it on.

I love your cheddar bow ties. How cute is that. I have such a low attention span I don't know if I have it in me to make 700+ of anything. Keep it up.

everytime I clean my sewing things I vow again to NOT BUY any more fabric! I've been a good girl the last few months and have been only using what I currently have.

It is too easy to get too many projects/ideas going at the same time isn't it!!! I am making plans (which means that I am just thinking about it)...on painting my sewing room, taking down an old dated sewing notions border, and putting up a twin bed to make it look more like a guest room again...

Just an idea for use of your selvages...recently, while sorting through my scraps bin, I collected all the cuttings and bits that I would have normally thrown away (a rare occasion) and used them as stuffing for a kitty mattress. I also added bits of left-over batting and some yarn. The mattress cover fabric was one that I got decades ago and don't want to use in any quilts. Kitty is happy to have a nice padded bed and it didn't cost anything to make.

Isn't it so nice to get the sewing room cleaned up? I am setting one up in my daughters bedroom(she married aobut 1 1/2 yrs. ago). I am saving my selvages for a couple of projects but will take several!
