Wip Wednesday - Sail Boats

Here is my current Work In Progress, a sailboat quilt for Grandson Number 4.  His Mama is going to use a nautical theme in his room.

I remembered that I had done a sailboat block before, more than 15 years ago, in a couple of sampler quilts.  The pattern came from the book, Lap Quilting with Georgia Bonesteel.  I still love that book, first published in 1982.

So I found my book and then figured out the rotary cutting sizes that would make the same block, instead of using the cardboard pattern pieces that I used "in the old days" before rotary cutting.

Ms. Bonesteel's beautiful version of this quilt.

My version of the quilt will have a white background.  I haven't decided on the border and binding yet.  As for the name for this quilt.... I can't get the name, "Blue Skies From Now On" out of mind.  The backing is going to be blue skies with clouds fabric.

I plan to quilt swirls underneath the boats to give the look of ocean waves.

Quilted

I finished the quilting of Lavender Kisses and its waiting to get its dark purple binding tonight.

The quilting on the front turned out ok, but the back is not as good.... But for the size of the quilt, I am pleased.

Whew!

I started machine quilting this monster quilt this morning at 7:00 A.M. I'm about 3/4ths of the way through and have used 6 bobbins so far.

I set my goal to finish the quilting today, but that might not happen! I am laying on the couch resting right now. Ugh! I'm ready to make some baby quilts, pocketbooks, key fobs and small things like that. :o)

Lavender Kisses Top

Here's what I've been doing on this beautiful Saturday!!! I finished sewing the borders on the Lavender Kisses Wedding Quilt.

Machine quilting a big quilt is not for the faint hearted!  I am exhausted from walking around and around, ironing, walking around more and finally getting the quilt sandwich to this stage so that I can pin baste it.

Machine quilting will be on the agenda this week.

Lavender Kissing Stars Progress

I've been working diligently on my stepson and his fiance's wedding quilt!  I'm calling it Lavender Kissing Stars for the time being.

I had a few unexpected days at home due to snow storms coming through the south.   This for me was heavenly.  You can see the snow in my view out the window as I was sewing.

I have had little stacks of lavender and purple triangles in front of my sewing machine for weeks!

Its a normal thing at my house for quilt blocks to be spread out on this bed at all times!

The pattern calls for 30 blocks and as of this morning I have finished 25.  The remaining 5 are in progress and won't take too much longer, I hope!  I should be able to start sewing them together in rows before the weekend.

Have a great week!  Our temperatures are forecast to be in the seventies later this week.  I will be resuming my walks on my lunch break if the forecast is right!
