Jungle Babies Three

I finished the quilting and the binding for Jungle Babies Three this morning. Then I washed and dried it, which gives it that old fashioned krinkly feel.

Question: Do you wash and dry your quilts before giving them away or selling them? I have washed and dried the last couple of quilts and have mixed feelings about it. I feel like the quilt loses its "newness" once its washed. But washing the quilt does have its pros. 1. It gives it that krinkly feel; 2. You can be sure that it launders well with no color runs, etc.

Darling quilt... I know someone is going to love it!

I wash finished quilts b/c... after me messing with them.... cutting, sewing, dropping them on the floor, hauling to and from the design wall, dragging to the dining room for pinning, etc... I like a clean quilt!

I wash and dry baby quilts so new moms will feel free to go ahead and use them knowing they too can do the same.
I have to admit that I do not wash the fabric before I cut it as I like the crispness. So wall hangings etc I do not wash at all.

What a pretty quilt, congrats!! I too wash quilts before giving them away but I let new Mommies know what laundry soap I used in case they want to use baby soap. I figure after all the work I put into them I should at least get to see them crinkle up for the first time!!

I wash the fabric first before I even cut out the quilt. I want no surprises....LOL

I am with Coleen. Although I do not do quilts, a valuable lesson was learned decades ago. It is always best to wash/shrink fabric before starting any cutting and sewing.

With quilts, it makes sense to also wash them when they are completed because of all the handling involved in the making of them.

The quilt is so cute! I wash material before sewing but like you said the newness seems to be gone then. I have made very few quilts. Hopeful to do more in the future.
