Jungle Babies Three

I finished the quilting and the binding for Jungle Babies Three this morning. Then I washed and dried it, which gives it that old fashioned krinkly feel.

Question: Do you wash and dry your quilts before giving them away or selling them? I have washed and dried the last couple of quilts and have mixed feelings about it. I feel like the quilt loses its "newness" once its washed. But washing the quilt does have its pros. 1. It gives it that krinkly feel; 2. You can be sure that it launders well with no color runs, etc.

Indiana Wants Me....

Lord I can't go back there (song by Taylor Dean) Every time I look at this quilt block that song keeps going through my head.

This is the Indiana Puzzle quilt block for this week's Road Trip Quilt Along.

I've never been to Indiana, but have some relatives that live there.

5 weeks already! Can't believe how fast the summer is going by and am happy about that!

But I just can't go there...

The current projects I'm working on are:

Getting ready to pin baste:

2. This is block ten in the Bloggers Block of the Month quilt along I am doing, which has a winter/Christmas theme.

3. These are the 4 blocks I've done so far in the Road Trip Quilt Along I am doing, which have an Americana theme:

Ohio Star - RTQAL

Its week four of the Road Trip Quilt Along. Here's Ohio in my Patriotic/Americana theme.

I like how the four blocks done so far look together.

Next week the block will be the Indiana Puzzle. I'm already trying to decide which reds, blues, tans or yellows will go into that one!

Flying Geese Mug Rugs

I've been trying to pick a pattern to make a wall quilt from and am thinking of using the Flying Geese block. I found a website that gives instructions for figuring out how to make the size Geese you need. Its the no waste method HERE.

This method is so easy and very accurate. I made these mug rugs using 1 inch by 2 inch Geese.

This size would make a cute mini quilt.

Happy Friday!

Midnight Sky Table Runner

I got the inspiration for this table runner from a Thimbleberries quilt book that I got from the library. The quilt is called Midnight Sky and the instructions in the book are for a bed size quilt. For this runner I only used three of the blocks, arranged in a rectangle.

Its a very easy block to make. All you do is make a small Friendship Star block like the one in THIS TUTORIAL. Then you add 2 inch wide strips as in a log cabin block.

Easy as can be, as you can see from this close up of the blocks. After making the three blocks, just add borders, quilt and bind. The runner could be made longer, shorter, and/or wider according to the size table it will be used on.

I made a couple of new napkins in matching colors. I'll make some more this week.

My Weekend Project

This post is linked to Terri's CRAFTY THINGS linky HERE.

I'm working on a Summer table runner. Since I've already got these 3 blocks done, I hope to add the borders, quilt it, bind it and finish it this weekend.

The red plaid is from one of Hubby's old shirts! Love it!

Finished the Monkeys!

I finished putting the binding on the Monkees Gone Wild quilt. I like the way the chocolate brown and white dotted border and strawberry red and white dotted binding make the colors in the quilt pop.

Sock Monkeys on the front:

Curious George on the back:

Didn't we call this "dotted swiss" back in the day?

The Maryland Quilt Block

Here we are already on week 2 of the Road Trip Quilt Along from Em at Sewing By Moonlight

The Maryland block was very challenging for me and is FAR from perfect! I could try to take out some stitches and match up some seams better, but I'm happy to have it turn out as good as it did. And as I always say, "By the time its quilted, washed and dryed, no one will notice!"

Here are Maryland and Virginia side by side. I think I'm achieving that Americana theme I was working toward.

Next week we will be making the Pennsylvania block. I peeked at it and it looks much easier!

Monkees Gone Wild!

This post is linked to Terri's CRAFTY THINGS linky HERE.

Happy Friday everybody! Here is my progress on the Sock Monkey/Curious George quilt I have been working on.

I came home from work yesterday and instead of working in the yard as I should have, I opted to work on finishing this quilt. Supper was going to be simple, quick and LATE since my dh was working late. I used the two hours of bonus time to make quite a bit of progress.

Got it pin basted:

I decided to make the quilt into double monkey trouble by using the Sock Monkey design on the front and for the backing, some Curious George fabric that had been languishing in my stash for a loooong time.

So the name of the quilt is of course: MONKEES GONE WILD! Can you guess my age since I automatically spelled Monkeys, Monkees? As in Davey Jones Monkees? LOL

I don't have pictures yet, but I even FMQed OVER half of the quilt before calling it a night.

By the way, we had BLTs and fruit salads for supper. We are now using turkey bacon and loving it!

I'll post the finished quilt this weekend, Lord willing.

Virginia Star

Here's Block Number one of the Road Trip Quilt Along (RTQA), hosted by Em of Sewing By Moonlight. Its the Virginia Star. I decided to make my state quilt blocks in Americana fabrics.

I like yellow and blue together and I love the little stars and the yellow plaid. You may recognise it from The Graduation Quilt. Eventually I will run out of it, since it came from a shirt!

Next week.... Maryland!
